Stopping kidding yourself and get real!
A few years back when I reached a milestone age (I leave you to guess which one), I made a promise to myself never to lie to myself or worst still, to God. I was inspired by David’s simple prayer, “Keep me from lying to myself…” (Ps 119:29, NLT). Whilst the context was somewhat different, it resonated with me because up until that point, I found myself saying ‘I Do’ (proverbially speaking) in various ways when I really didn’t. Do you ever feel unsure of who you really are? If so, you are not the only one. Many of us wonder around with no sense of identity, understanding of who we are much less of what we want. This is no surprise when you consider the fact that we get tagged with various ‘labels’ such as ‘looser’, unlovable, forsaken and damaged, as we make our way through life. This ends up skewing our sense of who God created us to be. We base our identities on who/what others say we are, hence, spend our lives trying to fit into their mould. As a result, we never feel comfortable within ourselves nor can we get on with the purpose of our existence.
Simple Principles To Get You Started
Spring is in the air and many of us take time out to spring clean our homes, garages, etc to get rid of all the clutter and dirt we have accumulated over the past seasons. But as you go about doing this, have you considered giving your mind a spring clean too, to get rid of any emotional clutter and junk you may have accumulated?
Strange question? Perhaps but could this be the reason why some of us are experiencing a conundrum of modern syndromes/unexplained illnesses such as chronic fatigue, various disorders (e.g. digestive, sleep, eating disorders), muscle aches/pains, etc? In recent years, these have left many doctors baffled. More so, us Christians especially as we fast, pray and bind the devil. But are we giving the enemy far too much credit when in fact we should be looking closer to home? (more…)
